LODGING MANAGEMENT PROGRAM AT JOHN F. KENNEDY HIGH SCHOOL - GUAM
The Lodging Management Program (LMP) School-to-Career program was developed by the Educational Institute of the American Hotel & Lodging Association. The LMP will help prepare students for a lodging (hotel operations) career and establish a foundation for further learning whether the students immediately pursue lodging careers or go on to hospitality management programs at the college level. The LMP will give you a chance to explore career opportunities and gain the skills needed to operate and manage a lodging operation by joining classroom learning with on-the-job experience. Topics covered include an overview of the travel and tourism, career planning, front office, guest service excellence, housekeeping, leadership, human resources, marketing and sales, and food and beverage service.
You will also develop your personal career portfolio during the program. This an important portfolio that compiles all your best work samples from school, resume, job application and reflections of your education and skills. During internship, you will receive hands-on experience in lodging management while being mentored by local industry professionals. The LMP also features off-campus field trips and learning through technology in the classroom. The class includes a computer system network with high-speed Internet access.
When you are in the LMP II or LMP III classes, you will be competing for a chance to go to Orlando, Florida for the Lodging Management Program National Competition. A team of four will compete to represent JFK in an on-island competition. Overall winners will go off-island around April of each year to compete at the national level. Students may also take a two-part national exam under the Educational Institute of the American Hotel and Lodging Association.
